Using Technology and Design

This week begins our third class of Using Technology and Design.  Each Wednesday a small group of students has been meeting at Sequoyah High School to put their creative talents to work.  As part of the LEAP program, students get to take tutoring classes in math, science, and English, or they can opt to take an enrichment course such as Using Technology in Design, or Forensic Science.  Students are using the Cricut craft cutter machine, along with a computer and photo printer to create beautiful scrapbook pages. In addition to allowing students to express their creativity, the class also includes aspects of math as students use measurements to determine die cut and letter size, in addition to  page layout. The course also integrates with languate arts as students use their creative writing skills to accent their pages.  The first class was spent orienting students to the "how-tos" of using the Cricut machine and its various cartridges.  The second week, students started creating their own individual pages, some used photo-editing software to uniquely personalize their pages with family photographs.  The second week brought a much appreciated donation of over twenty wallpaper sample books.  The students are eager to match, cut, and use these donated materials in their upcoming projects.  Next week, we hope to post some pictures of projects using adhesive vinyl.
Thanks for stopping by our blog!!
